Merla is a high-quality, three-ply bookbinding gauze made from 100% cotton, designed for reinforcing the spines of book blocks and producing durable bindings. Thanks to its three-thread structure, it offers greater mechanical strength whilst retaining flexibility and the ability to conform easily to surfaces.
The wide mesh allows for very good glue penetration, which translates into a strong and durable bond with the binding. The gauze is used both in professional bookbinding and conservation workshops, and when manually making book bindings, albums or archival boxes.
