What are mounting components for in archiving?

Mounting objects is one of the most difficult problems in storing and displaying collections. The object must be held securely, but at the same time must not be subjected to pressure, bending, or contact with materials that could damage it. Mounting elements solve this problem. - they allow you to affix a document, photograph or stamp to a substrate in a secure, reversible and aesthetic manner.

Types of mounting components

Mounting corners (self-adhesive, acid-free polypropylene) hold an object by its corners without touching its surface – ideal for mounting photographs and documents in albums and on display boards. Archival mounting strips are used for fastening heavier objects and for creating hinges to view double-sided materials. Mounting segments – square for documents and round for seals, which provide delicate, point support for irregularly shaped items. Archival clips (polyamide) replace metal paper clips which rust over time and stain paper.

Boards and panels as substrates

Mounting boards (white and black) act as rigid substrates for displaying and storing flat objects. - graphics, maps, posters and large-format photography. Honeycomb panels combine high stiffness with minimal weight, making them an ideal substrate for objects that will be displayed vertically or transported. All boards are acid-free and can remain in direct contact with historical objects indefinitely.
