Why is deacidifying paper absolutely essential?

Acids are the silent killer of paper. They arise from the mass production of paper (wood acid), ageing, contact with polluted air, and even from the use of inappropriate inks. Collections from the years 1850–1990 are particularly at risk. – the production technology used means that without your help, these documents will fall apart in just a few decades. Deacidification is a process that stops this destruction by neutralising the threat at its source.

Choose a method suitable for the scale of your actions:

  • „Dry” (Spray) de-acidification: The fastest and safest method for single items. Sub-micron magnesium oxide particles neutralise acids without wetting the paper, making this method ideal for delicate manuscripts and prints.
  • Preserving and de-acidifying liquids They work on the principle of impregnation – they not only deacidify but also strengthen the weakened structure of cellulose fibres.
  • Professional Systems For archives, libraries, and museums, we have developed systems with precise sprayers that enable efficient serial work on hundreds and thousands of documents. This treatment does not alter the appearance of the paper, is safe for its content, and is the standard in professional mass conservation worldwide. It is a simple investment that will ensure that history written on paper stands the test of time.
