Conservation and archival cardboard

Archival and conservation board is a construction material for building protective packaging, backings, interleaving materials, and bespoke storage systems. Whether you are designing packaging for a historical map, reinforcement for an archive box, or a rigid backing for an exhibition, you will find flat boards, corrugated boards, and honeycomb structures in various thicknesses and rigidities here, all acid-free and designed for long-term contact with objects.

Tektura archiwalna służy do przechowywania i ochrony dokumentów oraz innych materiałów archiwalnych.

Archival cardboard acts as a construction material in collection storage and protection systems. Unlike ready-made boxes and folders, archival cardboard in sheets offers complete freedom in designing packaging tailored to non-standard objects. - large-format maps, rolled-up documents, three-dimensional objects, or collections of irregular sizes. It is also used as dividers between objects, reinforcements for box walls, and bases for flat objects.

Types of conservation board

Solid cardboard (archival board) is the most popular form, available in various thicknesses and colours, used as dividers, bookbinding backing, and walls for protective packaging. Corrugated cardboard combines lightness with increased rigidity and cushioning. - It is suitable for the construction of transport and protective packaging for large, heavy objects. Honeycomb panels are the lightest solution for maximum rigidity, used as load-bearing boards in exhibition structures and packaging for objects requiring protection against deformation.

Properties and standards

All conservation boards in this category are acid-free (pH 7–8.5), lignin-free, and meet long-term archival standards. Available variants with and without an alkaline buffer allow for safe use with both paper documents and objects sensitive to alkalinity, such as photographs or textiles. Archival paper and museum paper complement the range with thinner protective materials for interleaving, packing, and separating items in storage.
