Japanese papers and tissues

This is an irreplaceable material that combines a record low basis weight (from just 2 g/m²) with strength you won't find in any European paper. Thanks to fibres up to 10 mm long, Japanese tissue paper guarantees a durable repair while maintaining the original's complete flexibility. Here you'll find classic sheets, economical rolls, papers without alkaline buffer, and variants with heat-activated adhesive, ready for immediate use.

Why is Japanese tissue paper second to none?

The secret lies in its nature and traditional method of production. Japanese paper (washi) is made from the long plant fibres of kozo (paper mulberry), gampi or mitsumata. It is these long, „interlocking” fibres that make even the thinnest sheet almost impossible to tear by hand. In professional conservation worldwide, Japanese paper is the first choice when the highest quality and safety of an object are paramount.

Solutions tailored to your work:

  • Spreadsheets for precision: Ideal for manually cutting laths, filling minor defects and laminating single cards. They allow for maximum control over every millimetre of the repaired surface.
  • Roll-on for scale If you work in a library or archive and are undertaking the serial repair of many volumes, roll tissue will offer you the greatest efficiency and ease of use.
  • Specialist needs We offer Japanese paper without an alkaline buffer, created for the most delicate objects such as photographs or textiles, which tolerate an alkaline environment poorly.
  • Modern comfort: Paper with factory-applied thermal adhesive is a revolution in work pace – all it takes is heat activation to create an instant and durable bond without the need for liquid glues.

Effect: Invisible Repair

True artistry lies in a repair that becomes part of the object. Appropriately selected Japanese tissue paper allows for patching tears or reinforcing creases in such a way that the area of intervention is almost impossible to distinguish from the original. It is the only material that offers such certainty and aesthetics when laminating entire sheets or filling in losses using the add-on method.
