A-D Strips are strips of paper coated with a dye that detect and measure the degree of degradation of acetate film Octopus syndrome, in film collections.
Once placed in a sealed can, bag, box or cupboard, in the presence of acidic fumes released by degrading film, strips A-D change colour, indicating the level of acidity.
Each set contains:
full user manual,
reference pencil with four coloured bands corresponding to acidity levels,
250 detection strips measuring 38 x 10 mm.
Types of film stock used in filmmaking:
Nitrate: 1890–1950
Acetate: 1925–present
Polyester: 1960–present
A-D Strips are exclusively recommended for acetate film, in any format: sheets, rolls, cinema films or microfilms.
